From the Founder: The People Behind What I'm Building
My wife is going to kill me for posting this.
I called her after I dropped the kids off at school yesterday and asked if she wanted to get breakfast. Still in our workout clothes on a Thursday morning. Real life for us.
And with our fourth child due in August, life feels pretty full these days.

Three kids with another baby on the way. A new business I just launched. There's not much unused space on the calendar.
But you have to be intentional about the people who make all of it possible. And I have to remind myself not to wait for when things calm down...because they probably won't.
Sometimes that intentional time looks like a big trip or a fancy night out. Most of the time it looks like breakfast after school drop-off before the day gets away from you.
It is not polished or impressive, but it matters.
I know this isn't a business post, but there's probably a business lesson in here somewhere. That is part of what you get if you follow along with me.
Not just the business content or the finance lessons.
You'll see the human side too, with all of the imperfections and mistakes.
You'll probably see my three kids who have watched us build, and a fourth one that will hopefully see what we built. And my wife who has supported this whole season in ways that I cannot put into one post.
I am desperately trying not to take any of it for granted. And I hope you do the same in your life, in your business.
I also included the family photos she would have preferred, just to improve my chances of survival here...💀. If you have her number, please don't tell her. If she finds out I'm going to know that it was you...

Being CFO to a business that's already good
Most fractional CFO work starts with a mess. Chris and Matt Alioto didn't hire me for that. Here's what the job looks like when the business is already strong.
Why I sit on the Down Syndrome Indiana board
People who follow my work for the finance read sometimes ask why a fractional CFO spends his time on a Down syndrome nonprofit. The honest answer is the most personal one I have: my son Beau.
The same person in the QuickBooks file and on the acquisition call
In one week with the same client I mapped CCC accounts into QuickBooks, helped structure a calibration bonus program, and ran the math on a fourth location. That range is the job itself. Why most fractional CFO arrangements get this wrong, and what Logan Martin at Mr. Dent Collision Repair hired me to do instead.
